SG38 Spheroidal Graphite Cast Iron is a type of ductile iron material grade in standard in SABS 936 for South Africa. Although its strength is not high, its has the best elongation.
SG38 Cast Iron Mechanical Properties:
Tensile strength is minimum 380 Mpa.
Elongation is minimum 17%.
SG38 Cast Iron Applications:
This material is the lowest material grade for spheroidal graphite cast iron in its standard, which means its tensile strength is the lowest, however, its elongation is the highest comparatively. This means that it has very high toughness and has very good impact resistance. Moreover, it will be a good choice if your product will be used in a low-temperature environment.
For instance, automotive engine blocks, crankcases, chassis and drivetrain components; also widely used for construction machinery, agricultural machinery, and mining equipment, such as hinges, housings, rolling bearings, gears, and reducers.
